New to the Strand

Hello everyone, my name is Sarah, and I made the move to Conway, SC in January of 2025. I lived in upstate New York for pretty much my whole life, but I always knew that was not where I wanted to spend my whole life. I am not made for the cold, and I did not enjoy living in a small town, where everyone knew everybody. In late 2024, I realized that I am not getting any younger, and it is time for me to spread my wings. Little did I know, I knew absolutely nothing about picking up the lives of not only myself, but my husband and two of my children (ages 16 and 7), who really had no choice but to come along for the ride.

I was naive and thought that we could pack our whole life up into the back of a U-Haul, drive 800 miles south, and pick up right where we left off. I drove with two children, two dogs, one cat, and a rabbit, while my husband pulled a 30-foot camper, all through a snowstorm. The feeling of a fresh start that rushed over us when we were ten minutes from our new home was a feeling that cannot be beat. I had a job lined up, my husband was working on his, what could go wrong? The answer: everything.

Which leads me to start this blog. There is so much that I wish I knew. I wish I had looked into so much more before making the somewhat impulsive decision to pack up and drive south. The difference between life in New York and life in South Carolina is different in every aspect, which I think I could have been better prepared for. I want to help you be prepared, confident, and successful with your move to the beautiful Grand Strand.
